Case Study
Fenner Precision Non-Contaminating Belting with high release properties and temperature resistance
Challenge
A leading tyre manufacturer required a conveyor belt that would transport hot and sticky unvulcanised rubber compound through various processing machines in their tyre manufacturing plants. The belt needed to be able to handle hot rubber compounds from their mixing machines and have good release properties and also have sealed edges to prevent contamination due to edge wear.
Approach
A belt was produced using a temperature resistant SBR compound with a polyester/nylon carcase for strength which was subsequently wrapped with a cotton outer jacket sealing the belt edges. A coating of silicone was then applied to the cotton outer jacket to provide the necessary release properties.
Results
The wrapped (folded edge) cotton outer jacket construction of the non-contaminating belting protects from edge damage in the conveyor systems. The silicone coating aids release of the hot sticky compounds preventing build-up of the compound on the belt. Fenner Precision non-contaminating belting can handle hot compounds up to 180ºC and is available with a silicone release coating on one or both sides.
Non-contaminating belting is also available with a heavier silicone coating suitable to transport hot plastics and with both high and low friction bottom surfaces. A cut edge variant is also available.
