Case Study
Low Smoke Low Toxicity (LSLT) Silicone Coated Glass for the Production of Flexible Silicone Heaters
Challenge
Fenner Precision's customer, a leading electrical heating element manufacturer, required a material that was flat and flexible, with good heat resistance properties and low smoke and low toxicity levels for critical applications (eg. a flexible heating element for use in an enclosed environment such as a train).
Approach
Fenner Precision's engineers worked closely with their silicone compound supplier to find a silicone that meets BS6583 Category 1a : 1999 Annex B.2 Toxic Fume and Annex D8.3 Smoke Density.
Results
Fenner Precision's highly experienced technical team used their knowledge and expertise to develop a fibreglass fabric material coated with the LSLT silicone compound on both sides to fit the customer's specific application requirements. Produced on calenders, the range has since expanded to include material with either one or both sides uncured in various widths, thicknesses and colours - selections are made by the customer depending on their precise application needs for the manufacture of their particular etched foil or wire wound flexible silicone rubber heaters. With thousands of square metres of LSLT material now sold every year this is yet another example of how Fenner Precision designs products to fit our customer's needs....Exactly!
