Technical Staff Expertise:
Fenner Precision's technical staff of polymer chemists, engineers, quality and production personnel has more than 100 years of combined experience in liquid cast chemistry and process engineering. This expert staff works closely with our customers to determine the functional material requirements of each application and develop the exact solution to meet those needs.
Research and Development:
Fenner Precision's Buffalo, NY, location maintains a well-equipped in-house laboratory and chemical engineering staff to respond quickly to customer needs.
Our material analysis department evaluates incoming materials using Near Infra-Red (NIR) Analysis or Titration. New compounds are custom formulated in our state-of-the-art laboratory. Prototypes are then created using an automatic metering mix machine that simulates actual production equipment. This capability allows us to respond quickly to customer requests and ensures a smooth transition from R&D to production. Molded materials are then evaluated for specific physical properties as needed for the application, using a broad range of testing capabilities, including modulus, tensile, tear, elongation, compression set, rebound, tabor abrasion, electrical conductivity, chemical compatibility, bond strength, coefficient of friction, environmental stress and more. Strategic partnerships can be utilized for additional testing capabilities that may be needed on a less frequent basis. The end result is an innovative, cost-effective solution ready to be quickly put to work in a full production setting.
Product Engineering
At Fenner Precision we take great pride in offering the highest levels of product engineering for our customers. First we listen to our customers to define the application needs and prioritize the material properties and critical dimensions that are required. We then select an existing material from our database of ready compounds or develop a new material before beginning the prototype development of the new product. Our product engineers tackle the mold design and determine the tooling that is required to supply a new finished product in the most efficient manner. Prototypes can be turned around very quickly in our Buffalo, NY, facility using our laboratory automated metering mix machine and various statistical experimental design methods (D.O.E.), such as Taguchi, Yates, CCD, S/N Ratio Calculations, Analysis of Variance, Regression Analysis, Tolerance Analysis and Loss Function, to find the production process settings that will deliver a repeatable high yield process. Our customers often conduct lab and/or field trials with our prototype parts. Based on the feedback received, we then modify the compound and/or design as needed to ensure a successful production process.
